Data from the NASA Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center has been updated and upgraded, and now includes a database of "global human built-up and settlement extent" at 30m coverage, making it comparable to worldpop. This is, however, not direct population density estimates, so probably not yet directly usable in the way worldpop is. Cross link to parallel osmod issue
