The depth of field effect (and possible other effects?) gets progressively less and less pronounced as you increase the resolution. I wonder if the effect could be scaled to compensate. This was already a problem in the HD collection and increasing the resolution past 720p makes the issue even worse.

720p:

1440p:

PS2 (for reference):

Fixing this kind of stuff could turn this version into the definitive edition of the game

(if you do make a fix for this it should ideally be optional as I'm sure many people prefer the cleaner look of no DoF)

Oh boy, more non scaling framebuffer effects, I bet this is also whats up with the sea lice in MGS 2.

The PS2 version when running at higher than native resolution in PCSX2 has the same issue. Although, still retain other effects better than any of the ports.
At first, it looked like they fixed a few visual bugs from HD Collection, but they actually made them worse. For one, there is no rain texture in this version. You just get the drops around Snake's body, but none anywhere else.
That escape on the bike near the end of the game where you're racing through the wet jungle with rain everywhere....
Yep, that's gone now.
