No feedback for missing codecs #23
Comments
cosmic-player should be doing this already. What version of it do you have installed, and on which Linux distribution? |
pop os 24.04 on the cosmic alpha, at the time of publishing it was with the latest updates installed. It's difficult now to reproduce without uninstalling dependencies, any ways I can test it? |
I think the only way to test it would be to uninstall the extra codecs. I will check if it is working here. |
I also see it is no longer working. I'll look into this, it will probably be fixed while implementing support for audio-only files. |
The same problem also occurs for unsupported file types, like documents, text files, etc. |
When a codec is missing the default video player will warn you about it, cosmic-player instead silently goes to the startup page with "No video open".
It would also be nice if in the future cosmic-player could suggest a way to fix problems with codecs by maybe linking to the appropriate cosmic-store page for ubuntu-restricted-extras when apt integration is more polished.
